A challenge that we have in many aspects of medicine and dentistry is how to prevent and put out incidents, or “fires”. In holistic models fires may range from trauma to teeth such as a blow from a skateboarding accident, pathogens causing periodontal disease or implant failure, or jaw pain from stress or emotional obstacle. Fires often manifest as inflammatory responses evoking an array of unpleasant symptoms.
Consider this analogy if you will. A spark smolders under conditions promoting a large uncontrolled burn. Luckily for us, communities have emergency defense systems for emergencies. Once notified, the alarm sounds – sirens blare as specialized vehicles and professionals are mobilized and race to the scene – stopping traffic and clearing the streets – to put out the fire while it is still manageable.
When the body is assaulted, whether it is by bacteria, foreign body, or trauma, our cellular matrix, immune and nervous systems are notified instantly – mobilizing specialized cells and facilitating their rapid movement and stimulating them based on their cell type and our body’s history to other exposures. The conduit vessels dilate becoming more permeable expediting travel of active cells, fluids and blood products, bathing injured tissues, stimulating repair and the exposure of pathogens to the immune system. These actions create all the classic signs of inflammation.
Common sense in the first story would tell us that impeding the action of the emergency personnel would be idiotic. However when faced with the second scenario of our own inflammation we commonly reach for drugs, such as ibuprofen, to alleviate the symptoms which suppress the natural mechanisms of our body system’s effort to put out its own fire.
Inflammation however, may be best encouraged and supported rather than suppressed – because we can not do better than our body’s own intelligence. Distinction – supporting IS NOT the same as making it worse. How then can this be accomplished – to overcome the crisis with the comfort we have come to expect today?
To promote the body’s response, I prefer the instant and far reaching combined effects of neural therapy for comfort and ozone for several reasons. Ozone makes red blood cells slipperier (better efficiency), releases *NO and endothelial relaxing factors, fractures pathogens for better immune recognition, and oxygenates the tissues at the assault site completely and immediately – bypassing the lungs (this in turns promotes all cell types to increase their activity). Though I don’t rule out the use of ibuprofen, narcotics, and antibiotics, these methods may have enormous side effects, and are often only partially effective.
As practitioners promote wellness by using the body’s own mechanisms, we extend our abilities to treat successfully and eliminate side effects. To accomplish this, a practitioner should have many resources at their command. Ozone, DNA, heavy metal, blood marker testing, antibiotics, diagnostic imagining, neural therapy, nutrition, homeopathics and drainage remedies and energetic techniques are all useful, and may be used effectively in combination to maximize treatment, provide truly lasting results, and reduce any negative impacts of treatment.
