Ozonated Olive Oil is made by infusing a high concentration of ozone in extra-virgin pure olive oil. It combines the moisturizing and smoothing properties of olive oil with the versatile healing properties of ozone.
We keep glass jars of this for patients refrigerated in our office for dispensing. In practice, a small amount of the cool, cold cream like oil is scooped out with a sterile instrument and applied to the teeth (to help prevent tooth decay), gum tissue(for gingivitis or during periodontal therapy), or any open sore, cracked lips, you name it. One of my favorites is to apply it with a “dry” toothbrush and use after regular brushing with toothpaste.
The oil liquifies with body warmth and softens at temperature. At home, one can use the clean tip of a butter-knife and apply it as often as desired. Though it is an incredibly strong disinfectant, the tissue will be soothed and not irritated. If you’ve experienced the discomfort of orthodontic braces, or an apthous ulcer – you can begin to appreciate the comfort a clean, slippery mouth can be.
Ozone is an effective disinfectant both topically and internally due to its anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-parasitic and anti-prion qualities. Ozone promotes healing by providing active, preventive and palliative (soothing) treatment for wounds, fistulas, rashes, abrasions, infection sites, cold sores, dermatitis, fungal infections, and periodontal pockets – to name a few uses.
One of the important ways ozone promotes healing is by changing the fermenting oxygen-poor wound environment to an oxygen-rich one that is friendly to new cell growth, but deadly to pathogens. Locally it helps the body’s natural immune system.
It can be applied both topically and internally (orally, vaginally, anally) to provide a natural alternative to pharmaceuticals. Areas such as the eye may be sensitive. Use in areas to which it’s application is soothing. It is easily removed with cotton or tissue.
There is no limit to the number of times it may be applied. Pathogens do not develop a resistance to ozone the way they can to anti-bacterials and anti-fungals, so apply as needed. Like any oil, ozonated olive oil may stain clothing or surfaces.
Ozonated Olive Oil kept refrigerated extends its most potent shelf life to 1 year and can be picked up at our office over the counter without a prescription during office hours. Cost is $30, and it goes a long way.
