Clean Dentistry

With a focus on whole health, we utilize minimally invasive techniques and biocompatible materials for fillings and bridges while avoiding metals and immune-triggering substances.

We test our dental materials to ensure they are biocompatible to support natural function, healing, and tissue integrations and prevent harmful reactions, toxicity, or adverse responses.

We examine your oral biofilm under a microscope, looking for bacterial information that gives us a more complete view of your health.

SMART Protocol

We utilize SMART protocol, or Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique, developed by the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT) to remove silver amalgam fillings.

Silver amalgam fillings often contain around 50% mercury and can release mercury vapor every time you chew, brush, or grind your teeth. Removal can improve your health, and the tooth-colored material we use to replace metal fillings can enhance the the aesthetic of your smile as well.

But most important is the peace of mind knowing your mouth has healthy, biocompatible materials that won’t erode or cause health issues down the road.

SMART Protocol Steps

Evaluation

We take X-rays and other imaging to ensure we have a full view of the filling, making sure all metals can be safely extracted.

Protection

For the patient and doctors’ protection, goggles and masks are worn by everyone to avoid exposure to mercury vapors, particles, or aerosols.

Cooling

Cold water is sprayed during the drilling process to keep the filling cool to reduce mercury  vapor production.

Suction

To capture mercury vapors, a high-volume evacuator and oral aerosol vacuum are used near the tooth.

Ventilation

Using high-volume air filtration systems, we remove mercury vapors from the air.

Rinsing

Rinsing with activated charcoal or chlorella before and after the procedure binds and removes residual mercury particles.

Collection

We use an amalgam separator to collect mercury waster and prevent contamination.

Disposal

All mercury contaminated materials including protective gear are safely disposed of.
