In 1926 Alfred Stock PhD defined the term chronic micromercurialism describing the effects of mercury on the body. This can be mercury from any source. Please understand that the ADA refutes that mercury is released from amalgam fillings. A health practitioner other than your dentist must talk with you about the dangers. Your dentist is in danger of reprimand if they mention it.
The EPA will not have it in the landfill, as they have determined it leaches out. Based on the evidence provided by Kerr (an amalgam provider), the 6th Circuit Court declares there is no need for a separate Material Safety Data Sheet for Amalgam, as the danger is the same as that of Mercury.
In dental school students are taught that when the amalgam hardens it is in compound and stable. Stability however, requires that electrons are not moving in current. In a liquid medium amalgam creates a battery (i.e., current) and loses electrons. This simple phenomenon creates the release of Mercury vapor.
Here’s an amazing video that will make you think twice about having mercury amalgam in your mouth…
Facts:
Mercury vapor is lipid soluble – living cell membranes are 40% lipid, brain tissue is of a higher lipid content.
Mercury is a liquid metal at room temperature
Mercury vaporizes easily at body temp, and the rate doubles every 10-degrees C (hot coffee or tea).
As a gas, Mercury (vapor) is colorless, odorless, and tasteless.
Mercury is most stable when it shares two electrons (covalent bond) with another molecule or group
Mercury bonds most strongly with Sulfur groups in biological systems
More that 99% of human enzymes contain sulfur groups in 3- dimensional configuration that determines their ability to be reactive.
When Mercury binds to Sulfur groups in these enzymes, the configuration is altered inactivating the enzyme.
The body still registers the enzymes as present in the system, and does not create replacements.
Enzyme cascades known and unknown are affected by Mercury with the affects being very individual.
Brain tissue and Placental tissue have little resistance to Mercury vapor, but once bound covalently inside the tissue, is most resistant to removal.
Mercury will take two of the four oxygen binding sites on hemoglobin, the patient’s blood drawn hematocrit will appear normal.
Both the Environmental Protection Agency and National Academy of science state that between 8 and 10% of American women have mercury levels that would render any child they gave birth to neurological disorders. Mercury toxicity: genetic susceptibility and synergistic effects, Medical Vedas 2(2005); 535-52; Haley B
Genetic susceptibility is affected by an inherited gene called Apolipo protein allele. The number of which decreases or increases your susceptibility to mercury toxicity.
Apo-E-4 reduced mercury detoxifying resistance
Apo-E-2 greatest mercury detoxifying resistance
Whole Body Imaging of the distribution of Mercury released from Dental Fillings in Monkeys and sheep show heavy distributions in the jaw (bones), liver, kidneys, and stomach.
Environmental:
According the EPA, an old fashioned thermometer of mercury will close down a 10,000 sq. ft. building.
World Health Organization Study shows average person gets five times more exposure than from any other source including fish consumption.
Dental Offices contribute 54 tons of toxic mercury to the environment every year, 2.5 times more than coal or electric facilities.
Other Countries:
The following countries have complete bans on the placement of mercury amalgam in patients: Sweden, Germany, Austria, Denmark and Norway.
