Dr. Copeland,
I was glad to find your website and the healthy way you practice, particularly with ozone. I have an ozone machine and I am wondering if there is a mold (such as a mouth guard) of some kind that I could put over a portion of my teeth that I could slowly circulate ozone gas into that would saturate the gums and teeth with ozone?
I would probably have to suction excess gas out to keep from breathing. I suppos oxygen would also work, but it does not have the disinfectant power of ozone. Ozonated water and oils, and now the gels, of course, would work, too, and may be more practical.
In any case, do you know of such a device or molded device that would work, is being used somewhere, or that could be created?
Thanks for your help.
Regards,
Samantha
Dear Samantha,
The short answer to your question is, “Absolutely YES”.
Application of ozone to the teeth and gingiva via Ozone Hyperbaric trays is part of Whole Health Dentistry’s periodontal regimen. The purpose is to saturate and expose both the soft and hard tissues to the antimicrobial re-oxygenation of ozone.
The procedure involves taking impressions which are sent to the laboratory; the trays are very specialized and must fit excellently. In the clinic, trays are placed over the teeth and gums under slight negative pressure which ensures both a seal for maximum ozone delivery and eliminates the breathing of access ozone gas.
It is important that the trays be used only at an ozone dosage appropriate for the condition of the tissue, after other procedures have been completed, and be used at every maintenance appointment.
A home ozone machine, though great for the home, is not suitable for creating ozone for medical/dental purposes. There is no way to calculate dosage or to be sure that the gas is without trace impurities (medical grade).
Ozone oils especially are an excellent way of delivering the gas to tissues. Again, their greatest benefit will be during and after other periodontal treatments.
Ozone hyperbaric trays are effective method of delivering therapeutic ozone and an excellent for both healing and maintaining benefits of periodontal therapy.
Best,
Dr. Cynthia Copeland
